50 Football Quiz Questions and Answers for Your Next Pub Quiz

22 October 2026, 8 minute read

Here are 50 football quiz questions and answers, split into five rounds of ten and ready to read out tonight. Mostly men's football, British slant, mixed difficulty: each round starts gentle and gets nastier towards question ten. Answers sit under each question, so cover them up if you're playing along.

Where a question asks you to "name one", every accepted answer is listed, along with the cut-off date. Records move, so the cut-offs matter, and nothing starts a row in a pub faster than out-of-date football trivia.

How to run it as a pub quiz

  • Give the cut-off dates out loud. "Up to the end of 2024-25" saves you an argument about last weekend.
  • Mark name-one rounds against the list. Anything else gets checked by someone neutral, never the team that wrote it.
  • Reward the brave answer. In round five, one point for any correct answer, plus a bonus if no other team gave it. Suddenly nobody writes "Cristiano Ronaldo" for question 41.
  • Swap answer sheets for marking. Quicker, and it keeps everyone honest.
  • Hold a tie-break in reserve. Use a spare name-one prompt: teams take turns until someone repeats, dries up or gets one wrong.

If you'd rather someone else did the marking, pass one phone round the table in Mates mode or set up a private league for the regulars. Our guide to how to play Ball Boffin explains both.

Questions people ask

How many questions should a football pub quiz have?

Five rounds of ten is the classic format and takes roughly an hour with marking. Fewer, longer rounds work if you want more time at the bar between them.

What makes a good football quiz question?

One clear, checkable answer, or a clearly defined list with a cut-off date. Avoid anything that depends on this season's table, because it will be out of date by the time you read it out.

How do you mark a "name one" question?

Any answer on the accepted list scores. If you want to add spice, give a bonus point to an answer no other team wrote down, which rewards the people who think past the obvious name.

Are these football trivia questions suitable for beginners?

Partly. Each round starts with gentler questions and gets harder towards number ten, so casual fans should get a few in every round and nobody walks away with zero.
